Holiday Projects

We completed several projects for Christmas Around the World.  One of our projects involved reading The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola.  Everyone made poinsettias and retold the story in their own words.  For example, Jamie told about the little girl named Lucida.  She lived in Mexico on a farm with her parents.  Reniyah continued the story by telling the Padre Alvarez asked Lucida's mother to make a blanket for the baby Jesus.  Yasmine told that Lucida's mother became ill and was unable to finish the blanket.  Esther wrote about how Lucida could not finish the blanket and no gift for the baby Jesus.  Natalia added that when Lucida went to the church an old lady appeared and told her to take weeds for the baby Jesus.  Ethan wrote how the green weeds turned into red stars!  He said, "It was amaezing!"

Additional project included making decorations for the classroom tree, hanging stockings in the classroom, and making menorahs.

Multicultural Week

Twenty-eight countries are represented at South Fork.  During the week, our class observed a demonstration of weaving by parents originally from Myanmar.  We also studied about the American flag and tasted food from Mexico.  On Friday, the school held a parade of nations with everyone carrying a flags from many different countries.  A school assembly was held where we sang songs from a variety of countries.
